Pre-light Experience

The wrapper on the A.C.E. Prime M.X.S. Signature Tiago Splitter Robusto is light brown with a slight green tint. There are some slightly raised veins present that carry a slightly lighter color to them. The seams are easily visible as they are also slightly raised. The head is finished off with a well applied double cap and the top cap doesn’t have the same green tint as the rest of the wrapper. The band is black and gold and carries the line logo and name. Below that is Tiago’s name along with his signature on the opposite side. The aroma from the wrapper is grassy hay while the foot brings wood and tobacco sweetness. The pre-light draw brings a young cedar with a mild spiciness to my lips and tongue.

First Third

The cigar begins with oak, grassiness and mustiness. At a quarter inch in, a light baking spice joins. At a half inch in, the grassiness is very faint. At an inch in, the oak gains a light toasted note. The retrohale brings toasted oak, mustiness and faint grassiness. As the third comes to a close, the profile remains slightly toasted oak up front with mustiness and baking spice in the background and some faint grassiness. The strength in this third was right at medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, the toasted note becomes fairly heavy. At a half inch in, the grassiness is gone and a faint mintiness joins in. The retrohale is heavily toasted oak, mustiness and light baking spice. At an inch in, the mintiness is replaced by a light vegetal note. The third finishes with the heavily toasted oak, mustiness, light vegetal note and faint baking spice. The strength in this third remained at medium.

Final Third

As the final third begins, the toast level has increased enough to become a light char and the baking spice has left the profile. The retrohale is toasted oak, mustiness and the vegetal note. The cigar maintained the profile of lightly charred oak, mustiness and vegetal note through to the end. The strength in this third remained at medium.

Burn

The burn was a bit wavy throughout and required a touch-up at the end of the first third to keep things burning together. The ash held on in inch and a quarter increments.

Draw

The draw was fairly snug throughout, but didn’t seem to cause any issues with the smoking experience.

Overall

The cigar began with oak, grassiness and mustiness. Some baking spice joined in fairly quickly and the oak gained a light toasted note. The second third saw the grassiness leave and be replaced by light mintiness which was quickly replaced by a light vegetal note. The final third saw the toasted note reach a light char and the baking spice left the profile. Construction was a bit above average due to a tight draw and a touch-up and strength was medium the whole way. The A.C.E. Prime M.X.S. Signature Tiago Splitter Robusto had a nice start but as the toast level increased and the vegetal note joined, it became average and maintained that level the rest of the way. This cigar performed a bit like a candela with the grassiness and vegetal note. The wrapper is quite fragile as well as some cracks appeared as it went along. I might smoke this again, but it’s not something that I’ll be in a hurry to do so. For fans of candelas, I would say give this a try as it performs very similarly.
