Pre-light Experience

The wrapper on the Brick House Bricktoberfest 2022 is a light reddish-brown with some thin veins and a fine grit sandpaper feel. The seams are a bit raised and the head is finished with a twisted flag. There are two bands, with the primary being the traditional design for the brand. The foot band is red and gold and denotes the line name and year along with 5th Anniversary. The aroma from the wrapper is a mix of cedar and earth, while the foot brings stewed fruit, cedar and mild spice. The pre-light draw brings a light and airy mix of cedar and stewed fruit.

First Third

The cigar begins with toasted cedar and baking spice. At a half inch in, light earth joins the profile. The retrohale is an even mix of toasted cedar, earth and baking spice. At an inch in, the earth is dry and has become even with the baking spice which is just behind the toasted cedar. A light mustiness has also joined in at this point. At an inch and a half in, the baking spice transitions to black pepper. As the third comes to a close, the profile is toasted cedar just ahead of the dry earth and black pepper with a light mustiness in the background. The strength was slightly above medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, the black pepper is exhibiting a very long finish. At a quarter inch in, the toasted cedar takes on a bit of a stale/cardboard note. The retrohale is now toasted cedar and earth with light black pepper. At an inch in, the black pepper has mellowed a bit. As the third comes to a close, the toasted cedar with stale/carboard notes is up front with the dry earth right behind, black pepper a bit further behind and light mustiness in the background. The strength remained at slightly above medium.

Final Third

As the final third begins, the toast level increases a bit. At a half inch in, the black pepper has become a bit dull. The retrohale is now musty, toasted cedar and dry earth. At three quarters of an inch in, the black pepper is barely holding on. At an inch and a quarter, the pepper picks back up. As the cigar wraps up, the toasted cedar is up front with dry earth right behind, black pepper in the middle and light mustiness in the background. The strength remained at slightly above medium.

Burn

The burn was wavy throughout, and the cigar went out once, requiring a re-light. The ash held on in inch and a quarter increments.

Draw

The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.

Overall

The cigar began with toasted cedar and baking spice. Some earth joined in fairly quickly and some mustiness a bit later. The baking spice then transitioned to black pepper. The second third saw the cedar take on a stale/cardboard note. The final third saw the toast level increase and the black pepper waned and then built back up. The Brick House Bricktoberfest 2022 had a pretty average flavor profile throughout. The stale/cardboard effect on the cedar along with the dry earth just didn’t really intrigue me. I don’t really see myself coming back to this cigar, but if you like a drier, cedar and earth focused flavor profile, it might be worth a try.
