Pre-light Experience

The triangle pressed Alec Bradley Trilogy Native Cameroon has a wrapper that is light brown with some darker marbling and a couple of lightly raised veins. The seams are raised a bit while the caps are well applied. The band is red, pale yellow and gold and designates the company, line and sub-line. The aroma from the wrapper is light earth while the foot brings the same anise biscotti note that I got from the two other versions of the line. The pre-light draw brings a subtle version of the anise biscotti.

First Third

The cigar begins with toasted cedar and mild baking spice. At a half inch in, an earthiness joins the profile. The retrohale is toasted cedar with light amounts of earth and baking spice. At an inch and a quarter, the baking spice transitions to black pepper and picks up in fullness. As the third comes to a close, the profile is toasted cedar up front with dry earth and black pepper just behind. The strength is slightly below medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, there is some dryness to the overall profile. At a half inch in, the black pepper mellows a fair amount. The retrohale is now musty, toasted cedar and some light earth. At an inch and a half in, a light wood bitterness becomes present. As the third comes to a close, the profile is toasted cedar and dry earth up front with light black pepper and wood bitterness in the background. The strength remained at slightly below medium.

Final Third

The final third starts as a continuation from the second third. The retrohale remains musty, toasted cedar and some light earth. At an inch in, the wood bitterness picks up a bit. As the cigar wraps up, the profile is toasted cedar and dry earth up front with wood bitterness and black pepper in the background. The strength remained at slightly below medium.

Burn

The burn was straight the entire way through. The ash held on in inch and a quarter increments.

Draw

The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.

Overall

The cigar began with toasted cedar and mild baking spice. Some earthiness joined a bit later. The baking spice then transitioned to black pepper. The second third saw the profile become a bit dry and some light wood bitterness join in. The final third saw the wood bitterness pick up in fullness. Construction was absolutely perfect. The Alec Bradley Trilogy Native Cameroon had a flavor profile that never really seemed to get going. Just a basic combination of flavors that started to become dry in the second third. This Cameroon version of the line just didn’t do it for me and I’d give a significant lead to the Corojo over this and the Maduro. I don’t see myself coming back to this version.
