Pre-light Experience
The wrapper on the ADVentura The Conqueror Emperor’s Edition is medium brown with some darker marbling. There is a lone raised vein that runs down the front of the cigar. The head has a single cap that is finished off with a thick twist. There is a significantly raised wrinkle on one side of the head. The thick twist apparently is included in the length of the cigar as without it, it doesn’t reach the advertised 7 inch length. The band is the traditional design for the brand and this line uses black print on a white background. The line name is on one side of the band while the company name is on the other, but is mostly covered due to the small ring gauge. The aroma from the wrapper is musty earth while the foot brings a general wood note. The pre-light draw has a subtle profile of wood and a rose like floral note.
First Third
The cigar begins with cedar, dry earth and mustiness. At a half inch in, the cedar gains a subtle sweetness. The retrohale is lightly sweet and spicy cedar, mustiness with some dry earth in the background. At an inch and a half, the cedar has an aged profile but maintains the subtle balance of sweet and spicy. The strength in this third was mild-medium.
Second Third
As the second third begins, the cedar remains aged, but the sweet component has left. The dry earth is now quite faint. At three quarters of an inch, the dry earth has picked back up as the spiciness of the cedar has also increased. The retrohale has the cedar and dry earth up front with the mustiness right behind. At an inch and a half, the dry earth has the lead with the cedar and mustiness even in the background. As the third comes to a close, all of the components are now even. The strength in this third bumped up to slightly below medium.
Final Third
The final third begins with the dry earth and cedar up front and the mustiness right behind. The cedar has an increased spiciness. At three quarters of an inch in, the cedar gains some char. The retrohale is charred cedar and mustiness. The cigar finishes with the charred cedar and mustiness up front and the dry earth far in the background. The strength in this third remained at slightly above medium.
Draw
The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.
Overall
The cigar began with cedar, dry earth and mustiness. A subtle sweetness joined the cedar fairly quickly. The second third saw the sweetness drop out. The final third saw some char join the cedar. The burn wasn’t great as it required four relights and strength just built up to slightly below medium. The ADVentura The Conqueror Emperor’s Edition started with a nice profile, but from the second third on, it dropped down to average. The re-lights likely played into the dropping of enjoyment. I was liking how things started and was hoping for that to continue, but it wasn’t to be. The overall profile was nice and mellow with low strength, and I’m liking what I’ve tried from the brand. I’d just like to see if a revisit provides a better burn and a good flavor profile that lasts longer.
