Pre-light Experience

The wrapper on the Adrian Magnus Imperials Robusto is light brown and has some thick, raised veins present. The seams are smooth and the caps well applied. There are two bands, with the primary being gold, white and red and denoting the brand and the line. The secondary band is blue and gold and denotes the age statement. The aroma from the wrapper is a light mix of cedar and earth while the foot brings cedar, construction paper and mild spice. The pre-light draw brings lightly spicy cedar along with floral notes and a mild earth.

First Third

The cigar begins with toasted cedar, bold black pepper and some earth. At a half inch in, some creamy leather joins the profile. The retrohale is toasted cedar, zingy black pepper and earth. At an inch in, the earth increases a bit. As the third comes to a close, the toasted cedar is just ahead of the bold black pepper, with earth in the middle of the profile and some creamy leather in the back half. The strength was slightly above medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, the creamy leather picks up a bit. At a half inch in, the black pepper is now even with the toasted cedar up front. The retrohale remains toasted cedar, zingy black pepper and earth. At an inch in, the earth increases a bit. As the third comes to a close, the toasted cedar and black pepper are even up front, with the earth right behind and the creamy leather just behind the middle of the profile. The strength remained at slightly above medium.

Final Third

The final third begins with the black pepper exhibiting a very long finish. The retrohale remains toasted cedar, zingy black pepper and earth. At three quarters of an inch in, the toast level of the cedar becomes pretty heavy. As the cigar comes to a close, the heavily toasted cedar and black pepper are even up front, with earth right behind and the creamy leather just behind the middle of the profile. The strength bumped up to medium-full.

Burn

The burn was straight throughout and the ash held on in inch and a quarter increments.

Draw

The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.

Overall

The cigar began with toasted cedar, bold black pepper and some earth. Some creamy leather joined in a bit later. The second third sees the creamy leather and earth increase and the black pepper also increases to become even with the cedar up front. The final third saw the toast level of the cedar become pretty heavy. Construction was absolutely perfect. The Adrian Magnus Imperials Robusto had an average flavor profile throughout, focused around toasted cedar, black pepper and earth. The creamy leather was a nice addition, but didn’t really elevate the profile. The bold pepper really pushes the strength a bit and I could see this being attractive to those that like pepper bombs. For me, the flavor profile just didn’t do enough to make me want to return.
