Appearance
The 4 Mile Rice Pudding Porter has a ‘Christmas’ vibe to it with a white snowflake on red background with white lettering. This review beer came in a tall, brown glass bottle. The bottom cap is the same motif as the bottle, with the name of the brewery in white, against the red background. When I pour the beer, it has a dark porter appearance, with a medium thickness head.
Flavor
Sweetness with each sip gives way to sweet berry and ends with long, lingering chocolate. There is a satisfying creamy mouthfeel. As the beer warms up, I get a mild coffee underneath the other flavors.
Balance
The sweet creaminess accounts for roughly half of the overall flavor profile. The mild coffee is almost a background note, as it’s buried under the other components.
Finish
There is a delayed chocolate finish, and it has a very long finish that lasts almost until the following sip.
Overall
The 4 Mile Rice Pudding Porter is an enjoyable porter style beer with elements of complexity. Even though the balance and aromas were average, it is one of the better porters I’ve had through 2018 and 2019.
