Once again, HVC puts out a good cigar with the HVC 10th Anniversary that delivers a range of flavors and nuance keeping me engaged for the majority of the review experience. I will add this to the pile of blends Reinier Lorenzo has put out that I would happy to return to.
The HVC 500 Years Anniversary Selectos had some enjoyable complexity in the first third, and while I found the middle and last thirds to be pleasant, they lacked the same complexity that would elevate the experience to a good rating. For an anniversary cigar, I was anticipating more complexity, as HVC has managed to deliver on these type of releases in the past.
I really wish the start to the HVC Hot Cake Corona Gorda would have maintained itself throughout as we'd then be talking about a really special cigar. The price point is quite attractive and I'd be willing to come back to this just for what the first inch provided. Definitely something I'd recommend people check out.
I was incredibly pleased with the HVC 500 Years Anniversary and would consider it one of their best cigars. In some ways, he truly created a cigar that honors Havana. With wonderful packaging and aging potential, this is a cigar to buy boxes of to smoke now and age.
This is what Broadleaf over Nicaraguan tobacco is all about. The HVC First Selection Broadleaf Toro is complex while showing transitioning and smoking at a medium-full level. You can't ask for more out of a Broadleaf release.
Like the majority of HVC's offerings, the HVC Serie A Perlas is yet another good example of a solid cigar. The use of quality Aganorsa tobacco honestly speaks for itself. The flavors of sweet buttered bread, nuts, fresh red pepper spice, barnyard, cedar and tannins were great, especially within the first third in which the profile was direct and focused.
This HVC Edicion Especial 2018 Corona is Aganorsa Corojo done right and what I love about a well made Aganorsa cigar. The flavor count was pretty crazy, nearing ten. It's not just that the number of flavors were many, but the flavors worked very well together.
The HVC First Selection Limited Edition 2018 Broadleaf Short Robusto was a spectacular cigar and a beautiful surprise. It has been sometime since I have had a Connecticut Broadleaf over Nicaraguan tobacco blend that has smoked like this, and it makes me want more.
Medium-full strength, medium bodied, rich and full of flavors sums up the HVC San Isidro Hermoso. The oily mouthfeel gave way to a great array of flavors. The only downside is the pesky burn. But overall, a pleasure to smoke and will gladly purchase them with no regrets.
If the cigar had smoked like it did in the second third throughout, this cigar would be fantastic and one of the best maduro offerings from the factory since the Illusione Pactum.
