Appearance

The Caravel Hazy Horizon comes in a regular sized can. The artwork is orange and yellow with a sailing ship and a ship’s wheel. The beer pours with a thick, white, foamy head and the color represents the style well with a hazy golden color.

Aroma

Nosing the beer, I get a pleasant yeasty funk, wheat sweetness and lots of carbonation. The aroma is fresh and inviting and has me eager to start tasting.

Flavor

The beer has a pleasant Hefeweizen yeasty body with sweetness, light plus wheat body supporting, and some mild citrus. I enjoyed the flavor profile but it didn’t rise above the notes of a normal Hefeweizen for me.

Balance

I found the balance to be very good. The sweetness, yeast and farmhouse funk, along with the citrus and associated mouthfeel are all very well balanced.

Finish

The yeast and farmhouse nature of the beer carries into the finish and lingers for a medium length of time. The finish doesn’t overpower the palate and leaves me ready to take another sip.

Overall

The Caravel Hazy Horizon is a satisfying Hefeweizen that stands out in a number of categories. I wouldn’t hesitate to order this again, and I’m going to seek this out on tap at a local beer pub in Calgary.
