Appearance

The Base Camp S’More Stout is in a regular sized copper can, with a silver middle. The beer pours dark, with a thick creamy head.

Aroma

Nosing the S’More Stout, I’m able to smell spun sugar, caramel and light cocoa nibs.

Flavor

I get flavors of a sweet ale, with coffee at the end of each sip. As the beer warms up, there is bitter chocolate mixing in with the coffee finish.

Balance

The chocolate and coffee blend well together, finding a similar strength. There is a bitter aspect of both of those notes that is fairly intense.

Finish

The coffee and chocolate have a long bitter finish that dominates the post sip palate.

Overall

The Base Camp S’more Stout is enjoyable, but doesn’t stand out from the crowd for flavor complexity or intensity. Given the name of the beer, S’More Stout, I was anticipating big marshmallow, graham and chocolate flavors.
