The Don Pepín García Clásico 20th Anniversary is an average to good cigar. I enjoy the flavor profile, but with a cigar of this size, it needs more depth and complexities. The flavor profile in general would be great in a smaller offering, but with a cigar of this size I need some transitioning. I am interested in the blend and brand, but I would definitely come back to this cigar.
The My Father La Lealtad Toro is a decent cigar. The flavor profile becomes a little monotonous with the size offering, but it is not unpleasant. It could come off as a profile that does not speak to a lot of smokers as well, and I feel that is a Dominican/Honduran aspect to the cigar. I believe this blend could reach a higher level with some more richness. That will add to the complexity and depth.
I really enjoyed the My Father Blue Robusto, and it is a blend I have returned to many times since released. It is a balanced blend, and I love how the Honduran tobacco smokes with the CT Broadleaf wrapper. My Father does so much with Nicaraguan tobacco that it is interesting to see how they blend with Honduran tobacco while also using a wrapper they know how to use very well. Lovely Connecticut Broadleaf, fun new release when looking at the blend and who produced the cigar, and a nice addition for My Father.
A fantastic price point is enough to get me excited for potential budget cigar worthiness. But I don't smoke cigars for the price points, it's all about the flavors. Given that, the Don Pepín García E.R.H. Robusto was a disappointment. While the first third showed plenty of promise, the overall profile was too linear in minerals and spice. Not my jam, but I do recommend trying it to see if you can find your bargain bin.
Chop this Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Connecticut Robusto up to another Connecticut shade that is in the middle of the pack. The blend has plenty of earthiness in wood and grass, but it needs to break away from all that earthiness and deliver more sweetness and creaminess. It's not off putting (especially considering the price point), but it doesn't really have anything special going for it. It's a pass for me.
The Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Sucesor Limited Edition 2024 Torpedo started out over the medium strength mark with some intense flavor combinations through the first third. As the cigar continued, some of the balance was lost, but the cigar remained pleasant to smoke. I enjoyed the cigar, but it didn't quite get there for me in the second third to make this something I'd seek out in the future, despite the better than average price point for the current 2024 market.
The Don Pepin Garcia 20th Anniversary Limited Edition had a promising first third with some dynamic and interesting flavor combinations. The remainder of the cigar was pleasant but I didn't find anything about the delivery that made it stand above the crowd. I didn't find the 20th Anniversary release something I'd revisit, especially when you factor in the price point.
The My Father La Union Black Prominente Especial was a disappointment. While the first third was good, the overall feel was that the cigar lacked depth and complexities. Being such a long smoke, it needs to do a much better job of engaging and keeping my attention. The first third was able to do that, but starting from the second third, I was smoking it just for the review and didn't find much enjoyment out of it. Definitely save your $60 bucks and look elsewhere.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of their working relationship, both My Father Cigars and Tatuaje have created a limited-edition project named La Union. “La Union” (The Union), a trademark owned by My Father Cigars, consists of two different exquisitely crafted boxes, one in black and the other in red.
This Don Pepin Vintage Edition Toro was an enjoayble Nicaraguan puro, and a great Corojo '99 release. I am going to be honest, I looked at this and compared it against any AGANORSA Corojo '99 release. I will be honest, it is superior to any AGANORSA Corojo '99 release. My Father is back and appears to be taking on the Nicaraguan puro market again. I like the Don Pepin reference with the name.
