Micallef

Micallef Color Blend Bundle #2

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Color Blend Bundle #2

The Micallef Color Blend Bundle #2 is a good cigar. It kept my interest from beginning to end, and it has a nice core flavor profile. It helped that the burn and draw were perfect from start to finish as well. The peanut notes were great with the cream and cedar, and while softer, I have not had a flavor profile like this since the Humo Jaguar 14 years ago. I can see myself buying some down the road.

Micallef White Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef White Robusto

The Micallef White Robusto is a decent smoke. Yes, I would smoke it again, but it’s not something I would go crazy over or really seek out to keep in my humidors. The flavor profile is consistent from beginning to end, just enough complexity to keep my interest, and has amazing construction and burn. Honestly, with a cigar like this, it comes down to the price. If it’s somewhat affordable, I would approach this cigar in the future.

Micallef Green Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Green Robusto

The Micallef Green Robusto feels like a cigar built on a strong opening statement that gradually transitions into a dependable, if quieter, performance. It doesn’t fall apart, and it never becomes unpleasant, but it also doesn’t fully capitalize on the promise established in its opening act. It’s a cigar I’d reach for when I want comforting sweetness and soft structure rather than drama or evolution. Pleasant, measured and ultimately dependable in a modest way.

Micallef Black Toro

Personal Cigar Review: Micallef Black Toro

The Micallef Black Toro had an average flavor profile throughout, focused around earth and toasted oak. The cocoa powder in the first third was nice, but it mellowed out and couldn't elevate the profile. This Toro vitola wasn't at the same level as the Robusto reviewed previously and I wouldn't see myself returning, but for those that like really earthy profiles, it's definitely something to check out.

Micallef Purple Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Purple Robusto

The Micallef Purple Robusto presents a profile that opens strong with sweet bread and spice complexity, but gradually settled into a drier, earth and wood-forward experience. I found only brief moments of sweetness and citrus to break the monotony. Excellent burn performance and a somewhat snug draw rounded out the experience. While the flavor progression didn't really stand out, the price point will definitely assist in a competitive cigar market.

Micallef Red Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Red Robusto

I enjoyed the Micallef Red Robusto. Best Micallef I have smoked to date. The price is great as well! The flavors were solid from beginning to end, and I loved how the final third showed a return of the enjoyable qualities present in the first. With beautiful construction as well, this is a cigar that everyone should try a handful of times.

Micallef Blue Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Blue Robusto

The Micallef Blue Robusto is a solid cigar. Nothing extraordinary, but a solid release. The blend was balanced with a nice flavor profile throughout. The price is fantastic as well! I have not smoked the entire Micallef portfolio, and this may be an affordable offering, but it’s a solid release. I would smoke this again and pick them up at an event.

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Black Robusto

Team Cigar Review: Micallef Black Robusto

The Micallef Black Robusto had a nice start with a dynamic flavor profile. Things mellowed in the second third and dropped a level and maintained that profile the rest of the way. This is an interesting offering from the brand at a lower price point. While I found the cigar OK, it's not something I'd see myself returning to all that often, but I'm interested in trying the Toro vitola.

Personal Cigar Review: Micallef A Gordo

Personal Cigar Review: Micallef A Gordo

Overall, the Micallef A Gordo was fairly mundane. The stale note to the oak was a bit of a detractor and the finish with the char and light bitterness was a bit of a bummer. For the size, the price is fairly attractive, but you'd need to really like the flavor profile to make it work. For me, I don't see myself returning to this one.

Cigar News: Micallef Reata Corona Extra and Toro Announced

Micallef Cigars adds a Toro and Corona Extra to its Reata blend. The Reata bears the same name as Al Micallef’s successful restaurant in Fort Worth and Alpine, TX. The name pays homage to the majestic Reata ranch in the 1950’s epic movie “Giant,” starring James Dean, Rock Hudson, and Elizabeth Taylor, based upon the famous novel by Edna Ferber.
