The briefing, which was one of Dr. King’s first engagements with stakeholders, covered material facts about the uniqueness of the products, legislative history, current health data, economics, and impact of regulatory efforts.

Cigar News: PCA Publishes Summary and FAQ on the FDA’s Proposed Tobacco Product Standard for Characterizing Flavors in Cigars

Despite a general decrease in tobacco consumption over the past ten years, the FDA has identified flavored cigars as a tobacco product category increasingly favored by under-age smokers at a rate near that of cigarettes. FDA believes eliminating this category will lead to reduced youth consumption of tobacco, particularly among minority populations.

The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine released its review on Premium Cigars, acknowledging that premium cigars have distinct characteristics, method and frequency of use resulting in different health outcomes compared to other tobacco products. These points echoed PCA’s testimony that premium cigars represent a unique product category that presents a lower risk to public health.

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) announced today the development and release of its new strategic advocacy plan known as Vision 50: A Decade of Action. The plan focuses on a proactive approach to spearhead policy and legislative advocacy to benefit specialty tobacco retailing and will be synced with the association's efforts to bolster state associations and retail membership.

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) announced today a new mission statement for the organization as well as an expanded board of directors structure. These changes came as a result of a PCA board strategic planning session that assessed the current state of the industry and the association and how to best leverage the association for greater impact in the years ahead.
