Pre-light Experience
Seth: The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee is finished with a chocolate-colored wrapper that is silky in texture. Small veins are present throughout with faint bits of tooth. It is firm throughout and finished with a lovely pigtail cap. It’s a smaller pigtail, but still nice. Rich aromas are on the wrapper and foot, delivering notes of earth, chocolate, tobacco and warm spices.
John: The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee features a Colorado Maduro wrapper and a twisted tail cap, more commonly referred to as a pigtail cap. I weighed the cigar at 14.4 grams and measured the humidity at 65.4% using the HumidiMeter Pro. Aromas from the wrapper included wood and mild mustiness, while the foot delivered sweet tobacco and wood.
Jiunn: The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee has an attractive oily and hearty near Colorado maduro wrapper shade. Veins are well pressed, seams tight, bunch and roll even and the head is well finished with the flare of a mini man bun. Pre-light aromas consist of rich dirt/soil and a hint of rust.
First Third
Seth: The first third begins with warm spices that show bits of anise, cinnamon and red pepper. I am picking up some coffee, rich earth and cocoa powder notes as well, and the finish has some fruit, wood and leather qualities. Balanced, rich and full. I would consider the cigar medium-full to full in strength and body.
John: The first third opens with sweet, malty tobacco leading the profile, while baking spices and wood combine through the center and linger into the finish. As the cigar settles in, mild earth joins the post draw while the baking spices intensify to medium-minus strength. The spices eventually recede, allowing sweet tobacco and wood to retake the lead. Following the re-light, medium-minus baking spices once again define the retrohale, and approaching the halfway point, chocolate enters at the end of the retrohale, adding some welcome depth.
Jiunn: The first third has a robust medium-full body and medium strength. Flavors consist of cocoa and barnyard upfront with accented baker’s chocolate and minerals. Retrohaling has stronger and fuller dried red pepper spice and more baker’s chocolate. The finish shows very little flavors aside from some aged cedar.
Second Third
Seth: The second third is in line with the first. This is a complex and rich cigar. Lots of depth. Warm spices with coffee, rich earth and cocoa powder notes. Wood, leather and stone fruit notes as well. Rich cigar with a strength and body level at medium-full to full.
John: The second third begins with malty, sweet tobacco, bread and pepper leading the profile, while pepper and earth combine through the finish. As the cigar settles in, the various flavor components find a nice balance. Bread and wood gradually move to the forefront approaching the midpoint, while earthiness and pepper intensify to medium strength through the bottom half.
Jiunn: The second third’s flavors shift to greater focus on baker’s chocolate, minerals and baking spices. I especially like that I can toggle the dried red pepper spice via mouth draws. Strength and body remains medium and medium-full, respectively.
Final Third
Seth: The final third delivers warm spices with stone fruit, leather, dark coffee, mocha and rich earth notes. Damp wood and barnyard notes are present as well. It is rich, complex and balanced. It has a full strength level and is smooth on the finish.
John: The final third opens with earth, bread and wood leading the profile. Tannic wood moves into the finish as the cigar progresses. By the halfway point, earth on the post draw ramps up to medium-full strength and becomes the dominant characteristic. Through the bottom half, sweet tobacco persists in the center, helping to offset some of the increasing earthiness and tannins.
Jiunn: No changes to the final third. It’s still led by baker’s chocolate, minerals and baking spices. The variations of chocolate (baker’s chocolate, cocoa) are great, especially with a proper heft of medium-full body. Strength and body is unchanged at medium and medium-full, respectively.
Burn
Seth: The burn is very good throughout the cigar.
John: The burn showed minor waviness early before the cigar unexpectedly went out, requiring a re-light. It went out again at the halfway point of the first third, requiring another re-light. In the second third, the burn became uneven and required a touch-up to correct. The cigar went out once more in the final third, requiring a third re-light.
Jiunn: Great burn performance featuring an even burn, tight ashes, ample smoke production and cool burning temperatures.
Draw
Seth: The draw is very good from beginning to end. Some may say it is too restrictive, but they are full of it.
John: The draw measured 68 inches of water on the Cigar Medics draw tester. Subjectively, it sat between two-and-a-half and three notches into the resistant spectrum, making each draw slightly snug throughout the smoking experience.
Jiunn: The draw was also great, giving the ideal air flow and resistance.
Overall
Seth: This Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee is a beautiful cigar. The only two complaints that could be used against the cigar, and I don’t think these are truly justified, is the draw is too snug, and it is too strong of a cigar. If you are against cigars with a more restricted draw, and you don’t like stronger cigars, this will not be your jam. However, it is a great cigar. The flavors are complex throughout, and there is so much depth with the profile of the cigar. The size of the cigar is beautiful, and the smoking experience is fantastic. I want to smoke another one right now.
John: This cigar delivers a surprisingly engaging flavor profile, particularly through the first and second thirds where the combination of malty sweet tobacco, bread, baking spices, earth and occasional chocolate notes creates a balanced and layered experience. There’s a richness to the profile that feels deliberate, and the interplay between sweetness and spice gives the cigar a sense of progression that keeps it interesting well beyond the opening. The second third is easily the high point, where the various components settle into harmony without any single note overpowering the others. The bread and pepper combination works especially well, and the profile manages to maintain both depth and balance at the same time. Unfortunately, the construction struggles significantly throughout the review. Multiple re-lights and a required touch-up repeatedly interrupted the experience, preventing the cigar from fully showcasing what is otherwise a strong flavor profile. The snug draw further compounded the issue, making the cigar feel more labor-intensive than it should have. By the final third, the profile shifts toward heavier earth and tannic wood, losing some of the nuance that defined the earlier stages. Even so, the lingering sweet tobacco helps preserve a degree of balance and keeps the cigar from becoming overly harsh. In the end, the Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee is a cigar with flavors strong enough to overcome serious construction flaws. Had the burn and draw performed more consistently, this likely would have scored significantly higher. As it stands, the cigar earns its good overall rating almost entirely on the strength of its flavor profile and balance through the first two thirds. Total smoking time was 2 hours and 8 minutes.
Jiunn: The Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust 10th Jubilee delightful, heftier smoke, showing great medium-full body with richness in chocolate, earth and spices. So good that not even the final third tapered off in enjoyment, which is a true rarity. Will for sure seek more out.
