Pre-light Experience

Seth: The Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 is not a good looking cigar. It has some discoloration throughout, and it looks like dirt against the Natural to light Colorado wrapper. The wrapper has a quality that makes it appear aged and beaten from the sun. There are small sized veins throughout, some soft spots and an oily appearance. Aromas of barnyard, spices and damp wood.
John: The Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 has a Colorado Rosado color wrapper, and the vitola appears to be a large Toro with either a 54 or 56 ring gauge. The wrapper has a very smooth and appealing appearance, and the cap is well applied. I weighed the cigar at 17.6 grams and measured the humidity at 64.4% with the HumidiMeter Pro. Aromas from the wrapper included a very heavy wood aroma with medium-strength barnyard and hay underneath. From the foot, I was getting sweet tobacco, dry hay and dry wood.
Jiunn: The Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 has a naturally oily wrapper that’s overall Colorado. Veins are well pressed, seams tight, bunch and roll even and the head is well wrapped and capped. Pre-light aromas give cedar and flowery perfume.

First Third

Seth: The cigar begins by delivering some musty wood and barnyard notes. There are some dry earth and leather aspects, but they are muted. Lacking in complexities and depth. Medium in strength and body.
John: The first third begins with herbal sweet tobacco leading off at light plus strength, with wood taking up the center of the profile. Through the retrohale, the tobacco sweetness intensifies to medium strength, and after a couple of retrohales, medium-strength spices break through at the end of the retrohale. As the cigar continues, the baking spices on the retrohale back all the way off to light plus strength, allowing some wood to push forward on the finish. As the cigar progresses toward the halfway point, the herbal tobacco note moves into the retrohale as the tobacco sweetness begins to back off. Sweet tobacco returns to the front of the retrohale at light plus strength through the bottom half of the first third.
Jiunn: The first third’s flavor profile has a general staleness and dullness. Stale cedar and mixed nuts, tongue layering spice but also in a weird way dull. Retrohaling is the best part as there is no stale or dullness in flavors, providing sharper red pepper spice and cream. The finish is long and lingering with dull aged cedar. Strength and body is medium.

Second Third

Seth: The second third shows some life. There are some pepper and spice notes present that help with the earth and musty wood and barnyard qualities. Increase in strength and body as well, making the cigar medium-full.
John: Creamy bread combined with wood takes the cigar into the second third at light plus strength, while mildly dry wood makes up the finish and lingers through the post draw. The profile becomes decidedly drier as it progresses toward the halfway point, with dry herbal tobacco and wood leading at medium minus strength and mildly tannic dry wood making up the finish.
Jiunn: There’s a new flavor of citrus pulling through but the profile is still rather dull and stale with the same cedar, mixed nuts and tongue layering pepper spice. Strength and body is still medium.

Final Third

Seth: The final third is a continuation of the second. Nice pepper spices with some earth, musty wood, barnyard and leather. Slight bit of minerals on the finish. Medium-full in strength and body.
John: A combination of creamy herbal tobacco and wood takes the cigar into the final third, with dry wood making up the finish. As the last third settles in, mild bitterness joins the tannic wood already present on the finish. The profile is primarily wood driven by the halfway point, with bitter tannic wood making up the finish. Through the bottom half, the bitterness on the finish moves up to medium minus strength and begins taking over the post draw.
Jiunn: The final third’s flavor profile is unchanged, providing the same citrus followed by dull and stale cedar, mixed nuts and red pepper spice. Although the flavors are unchanged, the combination of flavors feel taxing on the palate and pretty disengaging. Strength and body finishes the same medium.

Burn

Seth: The burn is terrible in the first third, but improves in the second and is decent to the end.
John: As with every review, I lit the cigar with my Xikar Tactical single torch lighter. The burn started straight but developed some waviness, eventually requiring a touch-up near the halfway point. The burn was wavy through the second third and uneven through the final third.
Jiunn: Burn performance was nearly perfect. Although the cigar cherried for most of the cigar, the real issue was a quick touch-up needed within the second third to get the burn back on track.

Draw

Seth: The draw is decent from beginning to end.
John: As with every review, I used my Colibri SV to make a V-cut. I measured the draw with the Cigar Medics draw machine at 40 inches of water. Subjectively, I found the draw to be ½ to 1 notch towards the resistant spectrum, which puts it in the ideal range between open and resistant.
Jiunn: Draw performance was however perfect, giving the ideal air flow and resistance.

Overall

Seth: The Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 is an average cigar at best. It has a lacking first third, but it improves in the second. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go anywhere after the second third. It just remains at this average state. There is a part of me that wants to say this cigar overall is subpar, but the drastic improvement in the second third is getting it to average.
John: Blind Cigar #1608 starts with a reasonably engaging first third, where herbal sweet tobacco, wood and baking spices provide enough movement to keep the profile interesting. The tobacco sweetness is particularly effective through the retrohale, where it builds in intensity before giving way to wood and more restrained spice. There is a sense of balance here, even as individual components rise and fall in strength. Unfortunately, that balance begins to erode as the cigar progresses. The second third becomes increasingly dry, with herbal tobacco, wood and tannic notes replacing much of the sweetness that gave the opening its character. By the final third, the cigar has become primarily wood driven along with the addition of bitterness to the tannic wood. Where the cigar started and where the cigar finished was very far apart, and it’s hard to find commonality in the flavor profile in those two thirds. Ultimately, the Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 was an underwhelming experience that landed right in the Average category. Total smoking time was 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Jiunn: My most typed words for the review of this Casa Carrillo Deep Blue Limited Edition 2026 is no doubt “dull” and “stale.” In addition to these two words, I now can add the words “no thank you.” Whenever a profile is dull and stale, it is never going to redeem itself as these sensations will make any good flavors go bad. I’m going to light up another cigar now to redeem this experience.
