Pre-light Experience
Aaron: The wrapper on the rectangle pressed Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona is dark brown with some lighter marbling and the veins are well pressed. The seams are smooth and the caps have some raised edges. The band is black and silver and has the brand name on front, with the line name on the side and wrapping around to the back. The aroma from the wrapper is cardboard and some rich earth, while the foot brings cedar, earth and some cocoa powder. The pre-light draw is cedar and lightly soapy floral notes.
Seth: The Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona is finished with a lovely maduro to maduro-oscuro wrapper. It has a nice chocolate coloring, and it sports small veins throughout. It is nicely pressed and firm throughout. Smooth in texture as well. It has a nice aroma on the wrapper of tobacco, rich earth, leather and spices, and the foot gives off notes of rich earth, warm spices, dark chocolate and tobacco.
John: The Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona came in cellophane and had a UPC sticker with the cigar information, which was attached to the main cellophane body. There is an additional artisanal complication of being a sharp box pressed shape. I weighed the cigar at 9.3 grams, and measured the humidity at 60.2% with the HumidiMeter Pro. Aromas from the wrapper were mild barnyard, and sweet, aged tobacco. From the foot, I could pick out hay and tobacco.
Jiunn: The Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona has a uniform Colorado Maduro wrapper shade. Veins are well pressed, seams tight, bunch and roll even and the head is well wrapped and capped. Pre-light aromas consist of heavy cedar and minerals, and stale nuts.
First Third
Aaron: The cigar begins with toasted oak, earth and some black pepper. The retrohale is a mix of toasted oak, earth and some black pepper and cocoa powder. At three quarters of an inch in, the black pepper is now pretty mellow. As the third comes to a close, the toasted oak and earth are even up front, with the black pepper in the back half of the profile. The strength was slightly below medium.
Seth: The first third starts out with nice chocolate notes. They’re not too sweet, but there is more than just this dry cocoa powder profile. Rich earth is present as well along with some tobacco, leather and warm spices. Cloves, pepper and cinnamon are present. Medium to medium-full in strength and body.
John: My first few puffs bring flavors of sweet, mildly earthy tobacco. A combination of spices, malty sweetness, earth and tobacco make up the retrohale at medium strength. As it continues, the profile settles into a creamy, malty, spicy tobacco combination just over the medium strength level. Chocolate moves into the center of the retrohale by the halfway point.
Jiunn: The first third provides a nice medium-full body/mouthfeel paired with flavors of decadent rich chocolate, tart cherries, fudge, cedar and baking spices. Retrohaling gives powerful dried red pepper spice and the same tart cherries. The finish is medium in length with layered cedar and baking spices. Strength is medium.
Second Third
Aaron: As the second third begins, the overall profile is a bit dry. At a quarter inch in, a light wood bitterness joins the profile. At a half inch in, the earth takes a slight lead in the profile. The retrohale remains a mix of toasted oak, earth and some black pepper and cocoa powder. At an inch in, the toasted oak and earth are back to even. As the third comes to a close, the earth has once again taken a slight lead over the toasted oak, with black pepper in the back half of the profile and some wood bitterness in the background. The strength remained at slightly below medium.
Seth: The second third is in line with the first. Rich earth and warm spices present. Baking spices of cloves, pepper and cinnamon. Leather, tobacco and chocolate notes present as well. Touches of wood on the finish. Like before, medium to medium-full in strength and body.
John: The second third starts with the same creamy, malty tobacco flavor combination from the first third, with a mild wood and spice combination on the finish. As the second third settles in, a medium strength earth moves into the center of the retrohale. Some minerality joins the finish by the halfway point.
Jiunn: The second third is fast approaching given such a short cigar. The body is still the same at a nice medium-full. In terms of flavors, there’s a shift to showing more baking spices. However, the core profile is still full of decadent rich chocolate and fudge. Strength remains medium.
Final Third
Aaron: As the final third begins, a light, creamy cocoa powder joins the profile. At a half inch in, the creamy cocoa powder departs and the wood bitterness increases a fair amount. The retrohale is now just toasted oak, earth and some wood bitterness. As the cigar wraps up, the toasted oak and earth are even up front, with the wood bitterness right behind them and some black pepper in the background. The strength bumped up to medium.
Seth: The final third is in line with the second. Rich earth, warm spices, leather, tobacco, wood and chocolate. Cocoa powder notes present with the baking spices, and there is more pepper in this third. The cinnamon and cloves are present, but not what they once were. Again, medium-full in strength and body.
John: My initial flavor impressions in the final third are creamy earth, with minerality to follow and some tannic wood to finish. Dryness joins the post draw after a short delay. As the last third settles in, red pepper flake leads off the retrohale at light-plus. That red pepper flake builds in intensity, averaging around medium-full but reaching full strength at times.
Jiunn: The final third turns sour, tannic and slightly metallic. While the body is still medium-full, the flavors take a turn for the worse. Strength finishes the same medium.
Burn
Aaron: The burn was a bit wavy at times, but never needed any intervention. The ash held on through each third.
Seth: The burn was perfect throughout. Great burn line.
John: The burn was straight through the entire review process.
Jiunn: Burn performance was great, providing an even burn, ample smoke production, tight ashes and cool burning temperatures.
Draw
Aaron: The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.
Seth: The draw was fantastic. Perfect level of resistance that added to great smoke time on this petit corona.
John: I found the draw to be one notch towards the resistant spectrum, which puts it in the ideal range between open and resistant. Measuring the draw with the Cigar Medics Factory Draw Tester, the draw was 32 inches of water pressure.
Jiunn: The draw was also great, providing the ideal balance between air flow and resistance.
Overall
Aaron: The cigar began with toasted oak, earth and some black pepper. There was some cocoa powder present on the retrohale along with the other core components. The second third saw a light wood bitterness join in and the earth took a slight lead for a bit and then evened back out. The final third saw some creamy cocoa powder join in for a bit and then the wood bitterness ramped up. The Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona had an average flavor profile through the first two thirds, as it was focused around toasted oak, earth and some black pepper. It took a step down in the final third as the wood bitterness ramped up and put a damper on the finish of the cigar. Overall, a bit of a step down from the previous iteration we reviewed due to how the cigar finished, but just not a San Andres wrapped cigar that really did it for me. I don’t see myself coming back to this one.
Seth: The Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona is a fantastic cigar. The cigar has a great flavor profile, a nice body and strength level, and is finished with wonderful construction. The flavors of cocoa, warm spices and rich earth pair well with one another, and while there is not a lot of transitioning, it does what a petit corona should do. It delivers a great core flavor profile that is present throughout. It’s a short smoke, but with the construction, the cigar smoked slowly allowing for an extended enjoyable smoking experience. I would try the other vitolas in the brand, but this petite corona is box worthy. Please tell me Surgeon enjoys this Mexican offering.
John: I thought the Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona had a nice start to it, with different layers and intensity of flavor components. The remainder of the cigar was pleasant, but not quite as dynamic as where it started. The draw and burn were both perfect. I have to assume the intent behind the Petite Corona size was to deliver intense flavors in a short smoking experience, and I think it accomplished that. Overall, the smoking experience was pleasant, but I think I’d like to try it in the Robusto or Toro size to see if the larger format can deliver more complex flavor combinations in the second and last thirds. Total smoking time was 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Jiunn: I call this Black Label Trading Co. Super Deluxe 2025 Petite Corona a good cigar snack. It’s a snack because of the shorter smoking time of 45 min. It’s good because the flavors delivered for most of the smoking time are rich and satiating, kind of like a good chocolate quiSANT. This also cures some of the ADD I can have when smoking cigars. More please.
