Pre-light Experience
The Tatuaje Cojonú 2003 Series L is great in size and comes with a dark rustic wrapper. It has pronounced veins throughout and is a thick wrapper. It is oily to the touch and has a dark chocolate coloring, Colorado/Maduro to Maduro. The aromas on the foot and wrapper are that of rich earth, sweet spices, tobacco, wood and also dark chocolate.
First Third
The first third begins by delivering some strong spices, noticeable red pepper and with that is rich earth and strong oak notes. I am picking up some faint cocoa and the finish is that of black pepper and anise. I would classify the cigar as being between medium-full and full, and that goes for strength, body and flavors.
Second Third
As I enter the second third of the cigar I start picking up this soft metallic flavor and with that is some strong earth. There is a dry and pronounced wood profile present as well and the finish is of dark cacao and black pepper. Like before, the cigar is between medium-full and full, and that goes for strength, body and flavors.
Final Third
The finish is rather spicy and I am getting soft cinnamon, strong black pepper and red pepper. There are some dry wood and earth qualities and the finish has a hint of black coffee and dark chocolate powder. It has reached the full level for strength and body, and the flavors are right there as well.
Draw
Draw was perfect from start to finish. Simply amazing!

Overall
This cigar brought me back to the days when Tatuaje was making awesome smokes. I think they have gone downhill in the past couple years, same for My Father, but this was an awesome smoke. First of all, the size is fantastic. Pete knows how to make a great short and stout cigar. It was full in body and strength from start to finish, but it had great flavors, side by side. There was depth and complexity with a bit of transitioning throughout. If you have been a fan of the Cojonu release, you are going to love the Tatuaje Cojonú 2003 Series L and it is definitely a cigar you can smoke now and age. I know I am going to put a handful of these in my humidor to smoke when I want something pronounced and flavorful. Pete has a winner with the Cojonu 2003 Series L.
