Pre-light Experience

The wrapper on the Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas 2020 is dark brown and has some decently raised veins, a bit of tooth while also having a significant wrinkle near the foot. The seams are smooth and well blended while the head is finished off with a well applied set of caps. There are two bands, both with a grayish-green and gold color combination. The primary denotes the brand and line while the secondary denotes Limited Reserve. The aroma from the wrapper is a mix of earth and sweet cocoa. The foot brings a dryer and less sweet version of the same combination. The pre-light draw brings a dry and aged cedar.

First Third

The cigar begins with a mix of wood and earth along with a light black pepper. At a half inch in, the earth takes a slight lead in the profile. The retrohale brings mustiness with some earth and wood in the background. At an inch and a half, a light creaminess joins the profile as the black pepper increases slightly. The strength in this third was slightly below medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, the profile is a bit dry as the dry earth maintains the lead with the wood right behind, light black pepper in the background and creaminess no longer present. The retrohale is an even mix of earth, wood and mustiness. At an inch and a half in, the earth has extended its lead over the wood. The strength in this third remained at slightly below medium.

Final Third

The final third continues with the dry earth out front, wood in the middle and light black pepper in the background. At an inch in, the earth gains a bit of toastiness. The retrohale remains an even mix of earth, wood and mustiness. At an inch and a quarter, the toast transitions to char and brings a slight bitterness to the profile. As the cigar comes to a close, the profile remains dry earth up front, charred wood in the middle and light black pepper in the background. The strength in this third bumped up to medium.

Burn

The burn was fairly straight throughout, but the cigar did go out twice, requiring re-lights. The ash held on in various lengths.

Draw

The draw was fairly snug throughout, and with the small ring gauge, I chose not to try a draw tool to open things up.

Overall

The flavor profile of the Partagas Limited Reserve Decadas 2020 was a fairly smooth mix of earth, wood and black pepper, but it wasn’t anything all that exciting. I could see a fair number of smokers enjoying the smooth profile, but with the high price point and average flavor experience, it’s not something I really see myself returning to. This was just a bit too basic to keep my attention.
