Pre-light Experience

The massive Robusto sports a lovely wrapper that is Colorado in coloring with some tooth present as well. It has this lovely, faded leather color. There are noticeable veins present throughout as well and they are medium in size, showing their characteristics in texture on the wrapper. The foot of the Davidoff of Geneva 25th Anniversary delivers some mustiness, mushrooms, cedar, hay and grass while the wrapper is giving off some faint manure, leather and tobacco qualities.

First Third

The first third opens with some lovely spice notes that are not over the top, but balanced. It has some white pepper qualities and it is paired with some cream and citrus notes. There are some hay and grass notes present as well, and the finish has this sweet mustiness which is quite enjoyable. There are faint cedar and dry wood notes as well, and I would classify the cigar as being medium in body, just below medium in strength and medium in flavors.

Second Third

The second third continues to show those soft spice notes from the first third and it is balanced with this creaminess, citrus and wood flavor. I am getting some mushroom, hay and grass notes as well, and the finish shows quality of wood shavings. Like before, the cigar is smoking at a level just below medium in strength, and the body and flavors are at a medium level.

Final Third

The final third shows some transitioning and it has become more peppery and spicier in the end. I am getting some red and white pepper notes and it is paired with this musty wood and earth quality. There are still some grass and cedar notes present and the finish is that of cream, coffee and hay. Like before, it is medium in body and flavors, and the strength has come up to that level as well.

The burn was good from start to finish. The burn line was never razor sharp, but no problems present in the grand scheme of things.

In terms of draw, the draw was fantastic on the cigar from beginning to end.

The Davidoff of Geneva 25th Anniversary is a fantastic blend and it had depth and complexity throughout. There was smooth transitioning between each third and the addition and subtractions were subtle. When you really focus on the blend you pick up the flavors present. The cigar smoked at a solid medium level throughout and it was flavor focused which is my cup of tea. It is an elegant Dominican puro and my favorite use of the Yamasa wrapper to date. The size really works with the blend and I like this offering in a large format. The filler blend balances out the wrapper in this offering and I think if they went with a traditional robusto the final product would not be as good. I cannot think of many companies that can make a great Dominican puro and Nicaraguan puro except for Davidoff. Job well done and it was fun seeing these come back to shelves across the country since the initial 2013 release.
