Pre-light Experience

The wrapper on the Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Pyramid is mostly covered, as there is a cedar sleeve that runs from the bottom of the band to the foot and has a red ribbon at the bottom. The band is the traditional company design and has a red, gold and green color combination. After sliding off the cedar sleeve, the wrapper is medium tan with a green tinge and has some raised veins present that carry a lighter color. The seams are smooth and the tapered head is well finished. The aroma from the wrapper above the band is hay and light earth, and aroma from the wrapper after the cedar sleeve is removed is cedar, hay and earth, while the foot brings musty, spicy humidor cedar along with some earth. The pre-light draw brings a sweet and creamy cedar along with light earth. There is also a mild spiciness on my lips.

First Third

The cigar begins with toasted cedar, black pepper, creaminess and some earth. At a half inch in, the earth increases a bit. The retrohale is creamy, toasted cedar, with lightly zingy black pepper and earth. At an inch and a half in, the pepper mellows a bit. As the third comes to a close, the toasted cedar is just ahead of the creaminess, with black pepper just ahead of the middle of the profile and earth right at the middle. The strength was right at medium.

Second Third

As the second third begins, the creaminess mellows a bit. At a half inch in, the black pepper mellows a fair amount. The retrohale is now toasted cedar and earth, with light amounts of creaminess and black pepper. At an inch and a quarter, the creaminess lightens up a bit more. As the third comes to a close, the toasted cedar is up front, with earth in the middle of the profile and creaminess and black pepper in the back half. The strength remained at medium.

Final Third

As the final third begins, the earth increases a bit. At a half inch in, the toast level becomes fairly heavy. The retrohale remains toasted cedar and earth, with light amounts of creaminess and black pepper. At an inch and a quarter, the black pepper picks back up a bit. As the cigar wraps up, the heavily toasted cedar is up front, with the earth a bit behind, black pepper in the middle of the profile and the creaminess in the back half. The strength remained at medium.

Burn

The burn was straight throughout, and the ash held on in inch and a half increments.

Draw

The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.

Overall

The cigar began with toasted cedar, black pepper, creaminess and some earth. The earth increased a bit later and then the pepper mellowed a bit. The second third saw the creaminess mellow and the black pepper a bit more. Later, the creaminess mellowed a bit more. The final third saw the earth increase a bit and the toast level became pretty heavy, Then, the black pepper increased a bit. The construction was absolutely perfect. The Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Pyramid had a nice flavor profile through the first two thirds as the combination of flavors was well balanced. It took a step down in the final third as the toast level became pretty heavy and the earth increased. This is a well done Connecticut shade offering. The creaminess really helps in these profiles to keep dryness and/or bitterness at bay. This is a nice, long standing line that has a good price point. An easy return for me.
