Pre-light Experience
The wrapper on the box pressed Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Sonata Vibrato is a creamy medium brown with well pressed veins. The seams are smooth and the caps beautifully applied. There are two bands, with the primary being black, gold and white and denoting the brand and line. The secondary band is yellow, black and gold and denotes the sub-line. The aroma from the wrapper is smoky oak and earth while the foot greets you with sweet, creamy ice cream and then douses you with bold spice. The pre-light draw brings oak and subtle creamy ice cream along with a mid-level spiciness on my lips.
First Third
The cigar begins with oak and a mild combination of earth and baking spice. At a quarter inch in, some light creaminess joins the profile. At a half inch in, the baking spice has transitioned to black pepper and moved up in the profile. The retrohale is oak up front with a mild mix of earth, black pepper and creaminess. At an inch and a quarter, the black pepper has mellowed back to the background. As the third comes to a close, the oak is up front, with earth just past the middle and light black pepper and creaminess in the background. The strength was right at medium.
Second Third
As the second third begins, the earth is now right in the middle of the profile. At a half inch in, a light mocha note joins the profile. The retrohale is now oak and earth with mild black pepper. At an inch in, the creaminess has departed. At an inch and a half in, the earth is now right behind the oak. As the third comes to a close, the oak is just ahead of the earth with light black pepper, mocha and now a vegetal mintiness in the background. The strength remained at medium.
Final Third
As the final third begins, the mocha note departs and the oak gains a toast note. At three quarters of an inch in, the vegetal mintiness increases a fair amount. The retrohale is now toasted oak, earth and light vegetal mintiness. At an inch and a quarter, the vegetal mintiness is now even with the earth and the strength has ramped up dramatically. As the cigar wraps up, the toasted oak is just ahead of the earth and vegetal mintiness with black pepper in the background. The strength bumped up to medium-full.
Draw
The draw was perfect, with just the right amount of resistance that I prefer.
Overall
The cigar began with oak and a mild combination of earth and baking spice. Some creaminess joined in fairly quickly and the baking spice transitioned to black pepper. The second third saw a light mocha note join in and the creaminess departed. A vegetal mintiness joined in at the end of the third. The final third saw the vegetal mintiness increase and the strength moved up quickly. The Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Sonata Vibrato started well for the first inch, but then started to fall off. The cigar maintained an average flavor profile the rest of the way. Overall, the cigar was just OK. The quick ramp up of strength in the final third was a surprise. Not a cigar I’d really see myself coming back to.
